First, that American teenagers are experiencing a mental health crisis; second, that it is the fault of phones. “Smartphones and social media are destroying children’s mental health,” the Financial Times declared last spring. What do we really know about the state of mental health among teenagers today? But the American suicide epidemic is not confined to teenagers. Is there a stronger distress signal in the data for young women?

He runs a podcast and has attended over 100 presidential campaign events. I’ve asked presidential candidates pointed and respectful questions. At an “Our Great American Comeback” event in New Hampshire, DeSantis evaded responding to my question about the peaceful transfer of power. Gen Z journalists are often shut down by authoritative figures and officials, and student journalists across the country are not guaranteed complete constitutional First Amendment protection — discouraging active participation from students and rousing fear of litigation. While some might think we’re “too young” to be concerned about or understand national policy, these outcomes determine our future: a future that Gen Z is increasingly concerned about.

It has become clear that one constituency — young voters, 18 to 29 years old — will play a key, if not pivotal, role in determining who will win the Biden-Trump rematch. Four years ago, according to exit polls, voters in this age group kept Trump from winning re-election. They cast ballots decisively supporting Biden, 60-36, helping to give him a 4.46-point victory among all voters, 51.31 to 46.85 percent. There is substantial variance in poll data reported for the youth vote, but, to take one example, the NBC News national survey from April found Trump leading 43-42. Young voters’ loyalty to the Democratic Party has been frayed by two distinct factors: opposition to the intensity of the Israeli attack on Hamas in Gaza and frustration with an economy many see as stacked against them.

American Express CEO Steve Squeri told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday how the company attracted more Millennial and Gen Z customers, saying the cohort made up 60% of new card acquisitions during the last quarter. Squeri said American Express realized that attracting younger clientele was a "key thing" for the company, so it was important to offer cards with a high enough value proposition for that group. Younger card holders create a greater "lifetime value" than older ones, as they will continue to use their American Express cards as they age, he added. "We used to go after them with a no-fee card, but a no-fee card didn't have a lot of benefits—that's why you pay no fee for it," Squeri said of Millennials and Gen Z. The younger customer base is also growing because more merchants accept American Express cards than in previous years, Squeri added.

CNN —Even if your genetics put you at greater risk for early death, a healthy lifestyle could help you significantly combat it, according to a new study. Individuals with genetic risk could extend their lifespan by up to 5.5 years with a healthy lifestyle, the data showed. “Adherence to a healthy lifestyle could substantially attenuate the lifespan reduction for individuals with genetic susceptibility to a shorter lifespan,” Li said. But researchers were able to identify four factors that were associated with the biggest impact on risk of early death. I'm on the extreme end of the Gen Z remote worker movement; I've quite literally built my career from under my covers. It's comfortable, but I'm missing out on part of the professional world. I'm in a stronger financial situation because I've been able to stay outside London, and I've still made some genuinely wonderful long-distance connections. I've missed out on having that safety net that most professionals develop in the workplace. I've missed out on all the office dynamics, and there's no denying it; sometimes, staring at a laptop screen alone can feel like Groundhog Day.

Real Estate Fantasies

There are few acts more optimistic than shopping for a home. You walk through its doors, run your fingertips along its appliances and see your face reflected in its windows and mirrors. Real estate agents understand this allure. And the really good ones are so adept at spinning the fantasy that they’re building careers on television out of it. For a new story for The Times’s real estate section, which published this morning, I spent time with agents from shows like “Million Dollar Listing” and “Buying Beverly Hills” to understand how they became stars in their own right, and what that tells us about the state of housing in the U.S.Hollywood luxuryLate last year, I flew to Los Angeles to attend an awards show for some of Hollywood’s most famous real estate agents.

"The Eames chair is basically meme status," said Joel Vanderveen, a 35-year-old from Minnesota who created a subreddit about a decade ago dedicated to all things Eames. "Until the last 10 years, when people would say to me they had an Eames chair, I never knew which one they meant," Kirkham said. The Eames chair is one of those rare luxury goods that checks all those boxes for novices and experts alike, in his view. Not everyone with the Eames chair has a new one, an expensive one, or even a real one. The Eames chair seems eco-friendly, too — they're not going to be tossing it out in two years.

The crowd began gathering at 5 p.m., into the movie-perfect backyard of a 1920s Spanish-style Los Angeles estate once owned by Madonna. Unlike the Oscars or the Golden Globes, these awards didn’t go to actors, directors or screenwriters. They went to real estate agents, crowned in categories like “Stratospheric Sale of the Year.” (The winner of that award was Kurt Rappaport, who represented Beyoncé and Jay-Z as they closed on a $190 million Malibu pad last May.) Millennials are anxious avocado-eaters who'll never own property, while Gen Zers are depressed snowflakes who take liberties at work. So in the spirit of finding some common ground amid all the mud-slinging, BI asked six therapists what their clients from different generations commonly talk about in therapy. Gen Alpha are also forming friendships outside their family and independent of their parents or carers, and that's reflected in what kids worry about. Diana Garcia, a therapist in Florida, works mainly with older Gen Zers between 18 and 26. For the beleaguered drugstore chain, the odd “Gummy Mango” candy is a much-needed win. Walgreens said it didn’t work with any paid influencer to hype up its mango gummies but that it took off organically. Although Americans' average credit scores recently dropped for the first time in a decade, many appear to be maintaining a relatively healthy score. The average credit score dipped by one point, from 718 to 717, according to FICO's March 6 blog post. Your FICO and VantageScore credit score can fall anywhere between 300 and 850, and a 717 score is considered to be "very good," according to the VantageScore model. Ukrainian servicemen practice combat drills involving a BMP-1 in Donbas, Ukraine as Russia-Ukraine war continues on March 19, 2024. But, with future aid uncertain, analysts question what "victory" Ukraine could realistically achieve against Russia — a country that has put its industries on a war footing and is able to mobilize hundreds of thousands more men to war. While additional aid allows Ukraine to keep on fighting Russian forces in the short stretch, a "victory" in the near-term is an unlikely prospect. What's more, what "victory" looks like for Ukraine, or its allies, could be a source of friction. This is particularly the case in eastern Ukraine, where it has enjoyed support from pro-Russian separatists for over a decade.
